The Ramen Rage Continues
Shin Sen Gumi—the Japanese ramen shop with a cult following is opening its second OC location later this month in Irvine at Woodbury Town Center. The original location opened in in Fountain Valley in 2000, and even today it draws long lines.
The new Irvine restaurant will serve its award-winning ramen and will be the first Shin Sen Gumi location to offer udon, as well as a vegan menu that will include cold tofu, curry udon with a broth made using kombu seaweed instead of the traditional bonito fish flakes; Yaki ramen, a stir-fried noodle dish, and cold ramen or udon noodle salads.
Other Shin Shen Gumi locations are in Gardena, Montery Park, Rosemead, West L.A., Little Tokyo and Tokyo and depending on the location, the menu also offers sushi; yakitori--charbroiled meats, seafood and vegetables on skewered bamboo sticks; chanko-nabe—a hot pot meal; haktata mizutaki—a delicious chicken stew; motsu-nabe—a hot pot dish made from beef or pork offal; shabu-shabu, a traditional Japanese style hot pot with meat and vegetables; sukiyaki another hot pot dish with vegetables and noodles; robata--grilled meats and vegetables over charcoal; and sundubu---a hot and spicy Korean stew.
Shin Sen Gumi will open at Woodbury Town Center in late September near L.A. Fitness at 6404 Irvine Blvd.
