The US Air Guitar Championships in Irvine

January 29, 2023

The 2023 competitive air guitar season kicks off on Saturday, February 11th at 10 p.m. at UC Irvine. After a week-long run of the production “Airness,” the play that follows a rookie’s foray into the world of competitive air guitar, directed by Eli Simon, the UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts Department of Drama will host the US Air Guitar Regional Championship Competition at the Claire Trevor Theatre.

Part rock show. Part comedy act. Part spectacle. US Air Guitar allows ordinary people to become ridiculous rock stars. Come watch Southern California's finest battle it out for a shot at the US Air Guitar national title!

Want to unleash your inner rock star? Sign up to compete! As the only official national competition in the US recognized by the Air Guitar World Championships, US Air Guitar sends its national champions to compete for the world title in Oulu, Finland every year.

"Air guitarists are very serious about being silly. They're not just playing an invisible instrument, they're entertaining a crowd. They're giving them the greatest show they've never seen," said Jason Farnan, who plays “Lt. Facemelter” onstage and is the 2013 US Air Guitar National Champion and seven-time USAG National Finalist.
