Tapas Flavors of Spain, Opens at Kaleidoscope in Mission Viejo

Tapas Flavors of Spain, a restaurant and nightclub featuring authentic Spanish cuisine along with live Flamenco shows and Salsa dancing, has opened at Kaleidoscope in Mission Viejo. Tapas will have limited hours through December, serving dinner on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., on a walk-in basis only. The restaurant will also have Flamenco shows and Salsa dancing each night at no cover charge.

Tapas - which has relocated to Kaleidoscope from Newport Beach, where it was located for 19 years - is taking reservations for New Year’s Eve, and will begin taking reservations nightly in January. After the holidays, Tapas will serve Happy Hour on Tuesday through Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and dinner nightly from 6 to 10 p.m. Also beginning in January, the restaurant will serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Friday and Saturday nights, live Flamenco shows will begin at 8 p.m., followed by salsa and bachata dancing until 1:30 a.m.

Tapas Happy Hour menu will offer a variety of tapas for $5, with draft beer, house wine and sangria only $4, and Sangaritas and Mojitos available for $5.

Tapas menu features authentic Spanish dishes such as an array of tapas, along with Gazpacho (cold fresh vegetable soup) and Fabada (white bean soup with pork and chorizo), and salads including Espinacas a la Catalana (sautéed spinach, toasted pine nuts and raisins), Mediterranean (mixed greens with artichoke hearts, black olives, roasted peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, garbanzo beans and vinaigrette dressing), and more.

Entrees at Tapas include Seafood and Vegetarian Paella, Chicken Andalucia (baked chicken breast topped with a pear sauce), Snapper Madrid (baked fresh snapper topped with a tomato cream sauce fresh herbs, and black olives), Steak a la Rioja (ribeye steak topped with a reduced burgundy wine sauce and caramelized onions), Pasta Barcelona (Spanish Jamon, garlic, asparagus and fresh herbs tossed with angel hair pasta in a cream sauce), and other selections.

The Brunch menu will feature an array of dishes, along with Bloody Mary’s, Tapas signature Sangria, or a Tequila Sunrise for $5, or bottomless mimosas for $10.95. Tapas is also debuting a new Kids Menu.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve

Tapas will ring in New Year’s Eve with a prix fixe four-course menu that includes a Flamenco show with Duende Flamenco, followed by dancing with the band La Sonora De Los Angeles. Seatings are available from 6:45 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., for $55 per person plus tax and tip, to sit in the dining room, or $35 per person plus tax and tip, to sit in the bar.  Advanced tickets can purchased on Eventbrite for all packages, and will include tax and tip on each ticket. The New Year’s Eve menu will include a Mediterranean Salad; a Tapas Plate of Tortilla Espanola, Sautéed Mushrooms and Albondigas; a choice of entrée including Chicken Mallorca (Baked Chicken bread topped with a Mushroom sauce), House Paella (a traditional Spanish rice dish with saffron, chicken, shrimp and Spanish chorizo), Pasta Sevilliana (angel hair pasta tossed in a cream sauce with green olives and shrimp), and Steak a la Rioja (Ribeye steak topped with caramelized onions in a burgundy wine sauce.) Orange Flan will complete the meal, and party favors and a choice of Spanish Mimosas or Cava Wine to toast are included in all packages. Tax and 17% gratuity will be added to each meal.

Dancing only will be available with limited seating in the bar, for $20 reserved in advance, or $25 at the door starting at 9 p.m.
