OC Entrepreneur Develops SoCal Grocery & Restaurant Delivery App
Jay Zhao, a young OC entrepreneur is behind the local grocery delivery app Sonic+ which was launched in April 2020, in response to the growing need for contact-free delivery due to the pandemic and California state and local shelter-at home orders.
Sonic+ began as an efficient food delivery app (currently available in the App Store and Google Play) that provided Orange County consumers access to door-to-door, “contactless,” cost-saving, high-quality grocery delivery all from the comfort of their Smartphone.
Working closely with local farmers and nationwide wholesale distributors, Sonic+ eliminated the middle parties, allowing customers to receive groceries that are more fresh and less expensive. 9-months later, this one-stop mobile food delivery experience expanded to include the delivery of supplies and services such as fresh flowers, house cleaning, car wash, moving services, and more.
Plans to grow Sonic+ across California are in play for 2021 with long-term national and international expansion to follow but currently Sonic+ is providing grocery delivery throughout Orange County (as well as parts of LA).
Prior to launching Sonic+, Zhao opened Gui BBQ Restaurant & Bar, a welcomed gastronomic addition to the Irvine area, with patrons waiting on average 2 to 3 hours for a table (pre-Covid). Gui BBQ Restaurant & Bar continues to thrive and receive 5-star Yelp reviews, even amidst the ever-changing in-door/outdoor social distancing rules.
