Give Me Park Ave.

February 25, 2016

In one of the most unlikely places in Orange County—on Beach Boulevard in Stanton—is a treasure of a restaurant; Park Ave. is well worth the commute.

The multiple award-winning Park Ave. is in a class of its own since it boasts its own backyard garden where executive chef David Slay and his staff hand-pick lettuces, fruits, vegetables, herbs and wild flowers harvested for the menu. The olive oil, lemons and avocados come from the original owner of the property, the Ronnenberg family farm in Temecula.

In its former life, the property was the Highway 39 Chicken Pie Shop and kept its retro design, décor and Googie architecture.

Park Ave. takes great pride in its homemade and local ingredients, the kitchen prepares 20-30 different sauces, mint jelly, stocks, dressings, breads, desserts and ice cream for its eclectic menu that features favorite starters such as the garden’s Crispy Greens Chard, spinach, tatsoi, parmesan, sea salt and lemon; Burger’s Smokehouse Bacon and Eggs, jalapeño and cheddar deviled eggs, with pepper marmalade; and a Warm Spinach Salad tossed table side, with pepper bacon, with herb and apple cider vinaigrette.

For entrees choose from traditional favorites such as Slow Cooked Pork Shank with Riesling wine and pan juices, heirloom carrots, horseradish mashed potatoes; and Pan Seared Half Jidori Rosemary Chicken with roasted fingerling potatoes, and buttered green bean.

Park Ave. is most known for its steaks and chops that are USDA certified Choice Black Angus, with eight selections to choose from such as the Prime USDA Rip Eye Steak with twice baked cheddar and chive potato; and center cut Prime USDA New York Steak with potato and Gruyere gratin.

Some of the beloved menu items from the Highway 39 Chicken Pie Shop and Ronnenberg family recipes are brought back including the chicken pie, dark chocolate pudding, and Thousand Island and Blue Cheese salad dressings.

The property even has a sister restaurant, Il Garage that shares the same kitchen and specializes in Italian cuisine.
