Avila’s El Ranchito in Newport Beach Celebrates 50 Years

April 17, 2025

Avila’s El Ranchito Newport Beach is celebrating 50 years of family, food, and community on the Peninsula. Opened in 1975 by then 22-year-old Sergio Avila, the beloved Mexican restaurant has grown from a 40-seat neighborhood spot into a local landmark known for its authentic cuisine, welcoming spirit, and multi-generational ownership.

To mark its golden anniversary, Avila’s is bringing back its legendary $5 All You Can Eat Taco Tuesday for two nights only—Tuesday, April 22 and April 29, from 4 to 10 p.m. This crowd favorite, complete with a DJ and packed lines down Newport Boulevard, helped define Taco Tuesdays in the '90s and 2000s.

Other anniversary specials include:

Avila’s Miracle Margarita, available through April 30. For each one sold, $4 will be donated to Miracles for Kids, thanks to a partnership with Celaya Tequila.

Limited-edition anniversary t-shirts ($20), collectible pint glasses, and coffee mugs are available for purchase.

Today, Sergio and his daughter Maribel Avila Ley run the restaurant together, continuing a proud family tradition that spans three generations and 12 locations. Avila’s El Ranchito remains a vibrant part of the Newport community—where great food, surf, and hospitality meet.

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.
Friday, 11 a.m.–10 p.m.
Saturday, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
Sunday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m.

Avila’s El Ranchito Newport Beach is located at 2800 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach. (949) 675-6855 or visit avilasnewportbeach.com.
