Serious Slurping in Anaheim
Kappa Ramen just opened in Anaheim sporting a funky ambience in the same strip mall spot as former ramen-ya Lai Lai Ken. Kappa Ramen is a restaurant for serious slurping.
Only those up on Japanese folklore will know Kappa as the mysterious water creatures with a fondness for food, mischief, sumo wrestling and of all things, good manners. It’s chef/partner Eiji Kanazawa hails from Kyoto, Japan and is a familiar face from some of Orange County’s best-known Japanese restaurants, including Genkai in Irvine and Corona Del Mar, and Japon in Lake Forest.
Whether you’re a traditionalist ramen devotee or are open to new classics, you’ll be more than satisfied with the selections at Kappa Ramen. Highlights from the menu include Kyoto style, tonkotsu pork broth ($7.45); ton ton ramen ($8.75), tonsoku pork knuckles served on top of tonkotsu ramen; and Kapp’s signature ramen ($9.95), chef’s tonkotsu broth infused with organic kimchi and served with avocado, spinach, bean sprouts and corn; and chicken ramen ($8.75), char-grilled boneless chicken thigh served on top of shoyu ramen.
Customize an order with extra toppings ($.50 to $2 each) including egg, kimchi, avocado, spinach, diced tomato, bean sprouts, corn,
scallions, garlic, and ginger. Extra chashu and noodles (kaedama) are also available.
Mention Greer’s OC and receive a free Kappa shaved ice with a meal through September! Kappa shaved ice is available in sour apple, mango, pomegranate or blue raspberry.
