Reset, Reimagine and Reconnect in the New Year at Sherman Library & Gardens

January 05, 2024

In Corona del Mar, Sherman Library & Gardens has prepared a special lineup of activities starting in January to promote learning through wellness.

Commencing on January 10th, "Writing Wednesdays: Positive Journaling" will launch a five-week course aimed at nurturing emotions like gratitude, curiosity, serenity, and joy, drawing inspiration from the serene garden surroundings. Join local writer Ellen Bell as she shares the wellness benefits of Positive Journaling and offers insights into developing your personal writing practice. For additional information, visit here.

Explore a distinctive and delightful approach to floral design with the "Florcuterie Floral Design Workshop" on January 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Florcuterie involves the art of curating, arranging, and presenting an array of seasonal blooms, much like creating a charcuterie spread. Discover the technique of layering, creating depth and dimension while selecting flowers that resonate with your creativity. Join Becky Bridger of Bexbloomz for this unique floral experience. Learn more here.

Starting January 16th and running until February 20th, "Tai Chi Tuesdays" are back at Sherman Library & Gardens. Led by local teacher Cynthia Bell Niermann, these sessions introduce the gentle art of Tai Chi in our tranquil garden setting. This eight-week course incorporates Qigong stretches, breathing exercises, and short Tai Chi routines, providing enjoyable stress relief while enhancing health, flexibility, strength, and balance. Find out more details here.

On January 20th from 9:30 a.m. to noon, certified Mindfulness Meditation teacher, author, and freelance writer Ellen Bell returns to the gardens to lead a "Weekend Wellness Workshop." This workshop focuses on nurturing wellness through practices such as positive journaling, mindfulness, and yoga, all surrounded by the natural beauty of our gardens. Research has shown that these practices can boost optimism, increase positive emotions, and enhance physical and mental well-being. Visit here for more information.

Every Friday at 10 a.m. in the Central Garden, don't miss "Little Seedlings Story Time," an engaging event where preschool children and their caregivers can explore the wonders of nature through carefully selected books by Sherman Library & Gardens. Admission is free, making it a perfect opportunity for families to connect with nature and learning.

Sherman Library & Gardens is located at 2647 E. Coast Hwy., Corona del Mar.
