OC’s Newest European-Style Coffeehouse

June 06, 2022

Coffee enthusiasts have a new coffee concept to visit. The Ghoukassian Family, the restaurateurs behind the legacy concepts Bistango and Bayside Restaurant, opened Press & Moka Coffeehouse, a European-style casual coffee shop in Irvine.

The shop, which is located adjacent to the Airport Tower building on Von Karman Avenue, across from Bistango, features everyday coffee favorites, alongside specialty roasts and more. To bring their vision to fruition, the brother-and-sister team, Marc and Karyn Ghoukassian, partnered with Caffè Vergnano, Italy’s oldest roastery, established in 1882.

Press & Moka Coffeehouse will also feature grab-and-go European-style salads, sandwiches, pastries, as well as other specialties made with imported meats and cheeses.

To create a well-balanced aesthetic and feel for the shop, which they hope will attract coffee lovers and remote workers alike, Marc worked with Irvine-based interior designer Annie Tutunjian, president of AT Design Consulting.

“My design muse for Press + Moka are the cafes found in every city corner in Europe, allowing pedestrians to take a moment to enjoy a cup of coffee and have a bite to eat,” Tutunjian said. “This style of the cafe has been a global phenomenon for centuries and has become ubiquitous in our culture. The simple design, enduring small round tables with bistro chairs, and the color and material palette are reminiscent of such cafes. Situated within the busy residential and commercial area of the City of Irvine, we hope that Press + Moka will become the spot for locals to take a break, socialize, and connect with others.”

The coffee shop features free high-speed WiFi, an expansive outdoor seating area, along with select tables inside, and ample complimentary parking directly in front of the space at Airport Tower. For more information, and to stay up-to-date events, visit pressandmoka.com

Open 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

18881 Von Karman Ave. Suite 175 in Irvine.
