Newport Beach’s Only Craft Brewery Opens
Helmsman Ale House, a 15-barrel brewhouse, complete with a full-service family-friendly restaurant just opened in the Cannery Village on the Balboa peninsula.
The concept is the newest venture by restaurateurs Mario Marovic and Andrew Gabriel who have produced 13 other venues throughout Orange County, including Playa Mesa, The Country Club, and Wild Goose Tavern, Dory Deli and award-winning Matador Cantina & Cocina, among others.
Helmsman Ale House pours upwards of 12 unique, small-batch beers at a time with four 14-barrel fermentation tanks, five 15-barrel and three 5-barrel brite tanks. The featured eight serving tanks pour directly to tap. Choose from house signature styles, rotating seasonal offerings, as well as curated guest brewery selections. Growlers and 32-ounce cans will be available for takeaway. There's also a full bar with signature cocktails and wine list.
Equally important to the concept is an artfully crafted and locally inspired chef-driven menu with a California take on classic pub fare. The family-friendly restaurant also serves lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
Guests can choose to dine or drink at one of the two bars, a dining room and a covered and heated patio with relaxed seating and atmosphere.
Open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Friday, 11am-1am, 8 a.m. -1 a.m. Saturday; and 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. Sunday. Lunch will be served weekdays from 11 a.m. and dinner daily from 5 p.m. Weekend brunch from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 2 p.m.- 6 p.m. with $2 off house-brewed beer and half-off appetizers.
Helmsman Ale House is located at 2920 Newport Blvd., in Newport Beach.
