Surf City Marathon Adds Fun to the Run

January 28, 2019

Getting ready to run the Surf City Marathon on Sunday. February 3? You can look forward to more fun at the end of your run. That’s what more than 15,000 participants in the 2019 Surf City Marathon & Half Marathon on February 1-3 can expect thanks to a new partnership with Prjkt Restaurant Group. Featuring an award-winning route that showcases the scenic Huntington Beach oceanfront, the 23rd annual event is set to run along the Pacific Coast Highway on Sunday, February 3.

Through the partnership with Prjkt Restaurant Group, both Pacific Kitchen and SeaLegs at the Beach have been designated as official spectator zones. Each restaurant is located on the sand and accessible via Warner Ave at Pacific Coast Highway. After runners cross the finish line, they will head to the beach for the finish line festival and keep the fun going with a one-of-a-kind celebration at the Sandbar presented by Michelob Ultra.

Local favorites the Tijuana Dogs will headline the post-race concert on the main stage from 9am-1pm. With complimentary beer for athletes 21+, food trucks, live music and thousands of spectators, it’s truly one of the biggest beach parties of the year in Orange County. Also, runners that visit SeaLegs Wine Bar and SeaSalt Woodfire Grill (located on Beach Blvd and Atlanta Avenue in Huntington Beach) for breakfast or lunch after the race will receive a complimentary beer with meal purchase.

This year’s event weekend will include two days of running the “Cowabunga Challenge” mile on the sand on Saturday, February 2. Southern California rock band Those Guys will perform at the post-race beer garden stage on the beach from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Finishers of the mile race will receive a free beer (21+) medal and exclusive finishers’ cape. Runners who complete both the mile on Saturday and either the 5k, half-marathon or marathon on Sunday will receive a commemorative football.

The Surf City Marathon is a convenient destination event with the expo, start line and finish line festival all taking place just steps away from the sand. Race weekend kicks off with an Active Lifestyle Expo on Friday, February 1 from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 2 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the main Huntington Beach Parking Lot, across from the Waterfront Beach Resort. The interactive expo will showcase vendors featuring the latest in running gear, nutrition and fitness apparel.

Race day begins on Sunday at 6:30 a.m with the marathon, half-marathon, and 5k. Runners enjoy one of the most scenic race courses in the United States with spectacular views along the route. Event weekend concludes with a finish line festival and Sandbar presented by Michelob Ultra.
