Painbirds Debut at Lido Live

For the first time the founding members of Train--Charlie Colin, Rob Hotchkiss, Scott Underwood--and Tom Luce of San Francisco's Luce will make their new band debut called Painbirds at Lido Live on Saturday, June 20 at 8 p.m. in Newport Beach.

The Lido Live show will be a homecoming performance for Charlie and Rob, who both graduated from Newport Harbor High School. Local alumni groups, businesses, and organizations are coming together to support the homecoming debut of these two Grammy-winning, chart-topping NHHS alumni. Local retailer Jeff "Yoki" Yokoyama of YokiShop is creating the commemorative t-shirt for the show; the new Alumni Collective, representing Newport Harbor High School alumni, will be involved, as well as the local charity Pelican Rescue Team.

The band is currently in the studio recording their debut album. Several tracks are available for listening on painbirds.com.

Charlie Colin (guitar, bass, and vocals) is best known as one of the original members of the band Train. He received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song of the Year, 2001, for “Drops of Jupiter." He was the musical force behind the song, “Calling All Angels,” which received two Grammy nominations. He also co-wrote the hit song, “I’m About to Come Alive,” popularized by country singer David Nail.

Rob Hotchkiss (guitar, vocals, piano, and bass) is best known as the founding member of Train. He has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, taking home a Grammy for “Drops of Jupiter” (Best Rock Song, 2001). He is the musical force behind hits like “Meet Virginia,” “I Am,” and “Get to Me,” having contributed to music that has sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

Tom Luce (vocals and guitar) – Luce’s self-titled album received tacclaim in the San Francisco Bay Area, winning the California Music Award for Outstanding Debut. The Top 40 hit “Good Day” was heard in the movies 13 Going on 30 and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and was featured in the hit TV shows The O.C. and Alias. Luce's more recent “Buy A Dog” was the most played song on stations spanning from San Francisco to Nashville.

Scott Underwood (drums, percussion, and vocals) is one of the original members of the Train. He received a Grammy Award in 2001 for “Drops of Jupiter," as well as a Grammy Award for "Hey, Soul Sister” in 2011. He was the musical force behind the songs, "Something More,” “Following Rita,” and “Calling All Angels,” which received two Grammy nominations.

As Roger’s Gardens’ landscape general manager and CA Friendly Specialist, Fiskin will offer design options for removing or editing your lawn. He’ll also give tips on favorable plant combinations for lawn replacements and share his top drought tolerant shrubs.

On Sunday, June, 21 at 10 a.m. Roger’s Gardens continues its Gardening, Coffee and Conversation Series in the Disneyland gazebo for a casual roundtable style discussion about seasonal garden topics. Enjoy coffee and muffins, and bring your garden success stories and failures.

Topics can include: What's growing, what's dying, great new plants, watering issues, maintenance nightmares, bugs and butterflies, exciting vegetables, flowers or shrubs. You can all learn from each other, meet new friends and share gardening knowledge.
