International Women’s Day Event at Five Crowns Addresses Human Trafficking
In honor of International Women’s Day, EverFree, a non-profit organization that accelerates freedom for human trafficking survivors worldwide, is uniting women on March 8 from 7-9 p.m. at Five Crowns in Corona del Mar for a cocktail mixer and discussion on human trafficking and how women around the world can be empowered to stop it. A $50 donation is suggested – space is limited, and seats can be reserved at everfreemarch8th/ticketing.
Survivor leader and guest speaker, Kathy McGibbon, recently profiled in People magazine, will give a first-hand account of her harrowing experience. At age 22, her boyfriend convinced her to accompany him on a business trip to Dallas. Once she arrived at the hotel, she found herself trapped and unable to escape – for the next nine months, she was sex trafficked.
The Houston-based advocate told People, “I overcame it, and I'm on this side now, and if I can overcome it, I know that everyone else that's going through it can too."
Jacklyn Mitosinka, an EverFree volunteer and one of the organizers of the event, said, “This isn’t just happening in big cities like Dallas or Los Angeles. This is happening here in our own backyard. Orange County girls and women are not immune to falling victim to human traffickers.”
Guests will also hear stories and meet women who are using their influence, networks,, and careers to empower other women. Sponsors for this event include COO Tiffany Smith of Five Crowns, Tito’s Vodka, Jill Dahlson of Wholesale Florals, The Floral Parlor in Paso Robles and Justin Vineyards.
The event, hosted by Everfree, will take place on International Women’s Day on March 8 from 7-9 p.m. at Five Crowns in Corona del Mar. For tickets and information, please call 714.553.2635.
