Get me to the Greek!

October 26, 2011

Daphne’s California Greek restaurants (formerly Daphne’s Greek Café) is going through an exciting metamorphosis as a new California lifestyle concept, with surf legend Kelly Slater on board as its new ambassador, a new stylish contemporary look, new healthier Mediterrean and Greek menu items and a new music program with fresh indie music mixes playing at its 57 restaurants and available as free downloads at www.Daphnes.biz. (Its current artist of the month, Donavon Frankenreiter will be performing live at a private event its San Clemente location on Thursday.)

Daphne’s new CEO, Bill Trefethen, bought the chain out of bankruptcy and is bringing the eaterie into a new direction: with foods that fuel his active lifestyle and passions for surfing, snowboarding, music, and art—all bonuses to living a California lifestyle.

Longtime Daphne fans can still enjoy menu favorites like gyros, pita sandwiches, Greek salads, and kabobs, and new  items include fresh salads, flatbreads and grilled seafood. Most of the menu items are under 700 calories—with low fat to gluten-free and vegetarian options, and wheat pita bread, and soon offering locally brewed beers and California wines.

Go on Wednesdays, savory street pitas cost just $1.25  (regularly $5.79) from 3 p.m. to close. Choose from fresh carved gyros, grilled chicken and falafel. Or on Mondays, pita burgers costs just $3.99 from 3 p.m. to close.

Daphne’s California Greek has locations in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Aliso Viejo, Brea, Irvine, Fullerton, San Clemente and more.
