Decorative Arts Society’s Annual Lecture Series
The Decorative Arts Society of Orange County (DARTS) will kick off its 22nd annual reception and lecture series on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Edwards Big Newport Theatre with executive director Gwen Stauffer of Lotusland in Santa Barbara. Lotusland is the former estate of Madame Ganna Walska, a celebrated opera diva who developed Lotusland into incredible gardens with extraordinarily diverse plant collections.
Lotusland has helped lead the sustainable horticulture movement in Southern California and is an important resource for globally rare plants. A breakfast buffet starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the lecture at 10 a.m.
Non-members and guests are welcome to attend for a $75 fee payable at the door.
The Decorative Arts Society is a membership group of community-minded women and men who support the organization by participating in an annual lecture series presented by nationally and internationally known experts in the field of the decorative arts, including interior and fashion, architecture and landscape design.
Their subscriptions and donations to DARTS provide funds for projects and programs which benefit women and children in Orange County.
The lecture series will continue on Nov. 8 with Suzanne Rheinstein, interior designer and owner of Hollyhock speaking about “Rooms for Today: Easy Living with Antiques.”
On Feb. 14, 2017, the series features Richard Shapiro, designer, artist and collector speaking about “Evolution of an Aesthete.”
On March 14, 2017, it’s Michael Stehr, fine artist, art historian and lecturer with “Paint with Flowers: Monet's Gardens at Giverny.”
On April 11, 2017, the finale features Cameron Silver, founder of Decades and fashion director of H Halston and the H by Halston Brand, speaking on “DECADES: A Century of Fashion.”
