Chef Greg Daniels Opens Harley Laguna Beach
Chef Greg Daniels, most recently chef-owner of Haven Gastropub and Provisions Market in Old Towne Orange and the creator and chef behind Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa, just opened Harley Laguna Beach.
Harley is focused on creative; seasonal menus backed up by real hospitality. This mission is demonstrated in all aspects of the project, from Daniels’ collaboration with local food producers to find the best and freshest meat, seafood, and vegetables in the area, to welcoming diners into the space, to carefully crafting and preparing the food, to a renewed focus on giving guests the best overall restaurant experience they’ve had in a long time.
“The restaurant is named for my grandfather, Harley,” said Daniels. “When you come into Harley I want you to feel like I did when I went to my grandfather’s house: always welcome, the food was always good, and I left with a feeling of warmth in my heart.”
Rounding out Harley’s leadership team is Andrew Merritt as general manager and Landon Pulizzi as Chef de Cuisine. Merritt was most recently at San Francisco’s Absinthe Brasserie & Bar as Sommelier, and Pulizzi served in the same position at Haven in Old Towne Orange.
A few of the signature dishes include Rockfish Ceviche with plantain, lime, chili, and coconut; Jammy Eggs, Gonestraw Farm eggs, garlic herb marinade, snipped herbs, Terrace Hill Olive Oil, and cracked pepper; Fried Chicken, Korean-style drumsticks with spicy garlic glaze; and Wild Boar Loin with Jones Coffee Rub, grilled grapefruit and oregano. For dessert, a Roasted Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, Dark Rum caramel with black pepper ice cream.
