Beach Blues

May 19, 2010

Two days of non-stop blues, rock and soul music at the beach? It doesn’t get much better than this. The Doheny Blues Festival is returning Saturday and Sunday at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. It features more than 26 performances on three stages, including headliners, the Black Crowes on Saturday and Crosby, Stills & Nash Sunday. You will not be bored for one second.

Whether you are sampling beers at the microbrew tasting at the Backporch (where bands and artists perform acoustic blues in an intimate setting), enjoying international foods from BBQ to Greek to vegetarian, or tasting wines at the Blackstone Wine Lounge. Even kids can have fun at the Kidz EcoZone with face painting, ice cream, arts and crafts and many more activities.

The daily lineups look like this: the Black Crowes headline Saturday with Taj Mahal with the Phantom Blues Band, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jackie Greene, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Eric Lindell, James Intveld, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Igor Prado with Lynwood Slim. Crosby, Stills & Nash will headline Sunday’s festival, with additional performances by  Robert Cray Band, Booker T. Jones, Bettye LaVette, Otis Taylor, Duke Robillard Band and the John Nemeth Revue.

General admission costs $50 per day, a two-day pass costs $80. 9 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday.  Find out more here.
