Costa Mesa Gets Umami

The Umami wait is over. After much speculation as to where the first Umami Burger would open in Orange County, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Umami opens at the Camp in Costa Mesa.  The hot Los Angeles-based gourmet burger concept will roll out two more locations in the coming months at the Anaheim Brewery, then followed by a Laguna Beach location. To simplify the meaning of Umami or fifth taste, it’s a sensation from meaty or savory tastes. It goes like this,  sweet, sour, salty, bitter and then umami. Judging by the long line and the smiling faces on the first tasters of N’iceCream’s creamy gelatos and sorbets at the OC Mart Mix on Friday, this Venice born ice cream shop will make Costa Mesa even sweeter.
