Basilic Restaurant on Balboa Island is now open for takeout, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday evenings. Chef and restaurateur Bernard Althaus is serving his iconic French-Swiss favorites, with bottles of wine on sale for 15% off regular price. Ramadan, a month-long holiday observed by Muslims worldwide, began today and is marked by the crescent moon. It’s traditionally a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, community, and food. The observance includes fasting from sunrise to sunset with feasts before and after.
