Bruxie in Old Towne Orange, home of the original sweet and savory gourmet waffle sandwich, is opening its second location today in Brea Downtown. At Bruxie, waffle fans can order two types of Belgian waffles: the Brussels waffle that replaces bread for sandwiches and the dense, sweet Liege waffle with Belgian-pearl sugar. The Bruxie menu offers fresh waffles daily that include savory options such as bacon, egg and cheddar;
 prosciutto and gruyere;
 smoked salmon and dill cream cheese;

Yoki Shop recently relocated to a new store in Newport Beach on the Coast Highway. The shop is the brainchild of its owner and founder, Jeff Yokoyama, a longtime surf industry veteran who designs Generic Youth, Yoki’s Garden and Pidgin Orange clothing lines based on three tenets he strongly believes in: design, make and sell different. Tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, join award-winning documentary filmmakers Lisa Hepner and Guy Mossman of Vox Pop Films for an evening of art, film and discussion about exciting developments in the quest to cure type 1 diabetes.
