The 14th annual Newport Beach Film Festival—eight days of film screenings, seminars, Q & A’s with filmmakers, red carpet galas, parties and more—kicks off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Big Newport with the West Coast premiere of Green Day’s documentary “Broadway Idiot” a behind the curtain glimpse how their punk rock, album “American Idiot” became the acclaimed musical. Immediately following the film, the opening night gala takes place at Fashion Island.
