Taking a Look at Haute Cakes Caffe Remodel on Greer’s SoCal Show

October 30, 2018

Everyone’s favorite café to meet for breakfast and lunch in Newport Beach, Haute Cakes Caffe just went through a major renovation after 28 years in business, and it’s never looked better.

I just met up with my friends, next door neighbors, and owners of Haute Cakes Caffe, Paul and Tania Taddeo who managed to redo the entire project with the help of local talent, faithful customers, friends and their daughters in just three weeks. None of this work could have been completed so quickly without the expert team of their contractor Charlie Collins of CWC Construction and Scott Sandoval of The Electrical Prefab Lab.

You can see the Greer's SoCal Show at Haute Cakes for a look at the newly remodeled cafe.

The Taddeos relied on expert design help from Steve Jones of Bettershelter, and for the walls, they chose handpainted and custom glazed “mint” tile shipped from Winchester Tile Company in England; they purchased it at Mission Tile West in Costa Mesa. The sophisticated English tile changed the entire look of the cafe--as Tania says, "it's all grown up now."

Regulars who stop by for breakfast on the weekends, know the wait can be lengthy--they serve 600 meals a day—but a huge improvement, is the new doors and entry configuration that makes it easier to get in and order. The servers can now bring the food out to your tables without passing through the line, too.

Inside, you’ll notice the newly the vaulted ceilings, custom ceramic lighting, custom French Oak tables, new French Oak shelving, French metal fluted cabinets and vintage swim lockers that came from Heirlooms & Hardware in Huntington Beach. The architectural windows with original safety glass from the 1900s, as well as the vintage lab table came from JoAnn Sarvak at American Vintage House in Newport Beach.

Other local talents that helped out include Robert Guy from Guycorp who rebranded Haute Cakes and also worked on the window logos with Chris McNeil from Look Signs. Local artist Jim Olarte of Modern Beachcomber is making custom rope designs to wrap the poles and other areas of the café.

Haute Cakes is now proudly serving Common Room Roasters coffee, a specialty coffee roaster in Newport Beach. You’ll notice the new classic espresso counter by Capsule.

And there's a reason Haute Cakes has been in business for 28 years! Their food is delicious, fresh and high quality.

Favorites from the menu include their pastries, cookies, and sweets baked fresh daily, and for breakfast, the All American Scramble with bacon, cheddar, tomato, toast, and jam: Sergio’s Breakfast Burrito, and the Avocado Toast are a few breakfast favorites. And for lunch, the Chicken Paillard salad, Three Bean Turkey Bean Chili, and BLTA sandwich are all great choices.

You can enjoy all the dishes using vintage European hotel silver that Tania’s been collecting for over 20 years.
