Forget About Lunchables! Kids Learn About Healthy Eating Choices at Northgate Market

March 15, 2023

March is National Nutrition Month and Northgate Market and its partners Avocados from Mexico and Kellogg’s believe it is never too early to learn about good eating habits and the importance of physical exercise. This annual program is hosted at the grocery stores and is part of its community program, Viva La Salud.

Elementary school children took a field trip this morning to their neighborhood Northgate Market for a one-hour healthy tour that includes Avocado bingo led by a registered dietician, yoga poses as different fruits, while having fun stomping their feet and chanting “Eat Smart, Play Hard!” and much more!

Kids learned how to help their parents shop and make healthier choices. In the dairy section, kids saw how much sugar is in soda and fruit juices and how important it is to drink milk. In the cereal aisle, they learned about grains and how much sugar is in some cereal. Each student received a goodie bag along with a 2023 bilingual coloring book on nutrition.
