Descanso Turns Two, Announces New Executive Chef & Menu

December 02, 2020

Descanso Restaurant, a modern taqueria located in Costa Mesa, just celebrated its two-year anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Descanso introduces new menu items created by newly appointed executive chef, Fonzy de Zuniga.

“It’s been a challenging year for the restaurant industry, but the support we’ve seen from our community has been incredible,” says Rob Arellano, Owner of Descanso. “We started Descanso with the goal of bringing people together over great food and a memorable experience, and we look forward to giving our guests new reasons to safely celebrate in these times and for years to come.”

Bring your al fresco fiesta to Descanso to enjoy weekly happenings including Sunday Brunch with bottomless mimosas, weekday Happy Hour, Alambre Mondays, and Wine Wednesdays featuring live music on the patio.

Descanso’s menu of Central Mexican street-inspired cuisine is available inside, to-go, and al fresco on the restaurant’s 1,500 square-foot heated patio. The menu welcomes several new items including Sopa de Zetas, Diablitos, Enfrijoladas de Camaron, Poblano Rajas, Borracho Lamb Shank, Volcano Taco, Felipe Taco, El Cochinito Taco prepared by new executive chef, Fonzy De Zuniga. Brought on board as Descanso’s Sous Chef when the restaurant opened in November of 2018, Fonzy was elevated to Executive Chef in the fall of 2020. Born in Mexico City and growing up in San Pedro California, Fonzy began his culinary career as a high school student shucking oysters and cleaning fish at the San Pedro Docks. Fonzy prides himself on continually pushing the envelope on flavor and presentation while preserving the tradition and authenticity of Descanso’s dishes and recipes.
