Festival Ballet Theatre’s ‘The Secret Garden’

Festival Ballet Theatre (FBT), Orange County’s resident professional ballet company, will introduce its 2016-17 season with the contemporary, full-length ballet The Secret Garden on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct.16 at 2 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine. The Secret Garden, centered on the restoration of a neglected garden as a metaphor for the revival of the spirit, is a story of loss, rejuvenation, resilience, and kindness. The Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD), recognized as one of the top art schools in the country will be participating in the Next Generation Paint Out, a live painting competition on October 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Heisler Park in Laguna Beach. Master plein air painters will mentor students of LCAD’s undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate Fine Arts programs., all of whom will compete for top honors. The Decorative Arts Society of Orange County (DARTS) will kick off its 22nd annual reception and lecture series on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Edwards Big Newport Theatre with executive director Gwen Stauffer of Lotusland in Santa Barbara. Lotusland is the former estate of Madame Ganna Walska, a celebrated opera diva who developed Lotusland into incredible gardens with extraordinarily diverse plant collections.
