Hatch Chiles: The Hottest Chile of the Summer

August 11, 2015

It’s the best time of the year for the crème de la crème of green chiles: the Hatch Chile. The seven-week Hatch Chile season has officially started and you will start seeing Melissa’s Hatch Chiles pop up at your local stores such as Gelson's, Bristols Farms and more. Melissa’s Hatch Chiles are hand-selected for excellent quality, and are grown exclusively in the Mesilla Valley near Hatch, New Mexico.

Choose bright green, glossy peppers that are firm with medium to thick flesh. Avoid soft spots. Refrigerate, unwashed in a plastic bag for up to 5 days. They are available fresh only in August and September, Hatch Chiles are so good that fans load up each summer and freeze enough roasted chiles to enjoy year-round.

Hatch Chiles have a meaty flesh and mild-medium heat making them ideal for use in Chile Con Queso, Chile Rellenos, and Chile Verde. But, you can also roast them and using them in salads, soups, stews, dips, and sandwiches. And, for even more great ideas on how to use them, purchase a copy of Melissa's Hatch Chile Cookbook, a great collection of recipes for the world’s tastiest chiles.

You can also treat yourself, or a friend, to a festive Melissa's Hatch Chile Crate. It's an array of Hatch Chile items in one complete collection. A Melissa’s Hatch Chile Crate includes a copy of Melissa's Hatch Chile Cookbook, two 3.2 ounce shakers of its famous Ground Hatch Chile Powder (1 hot and 1 mild), an 8 ounce package of Dried Hatch Chiles (Hot), and a 12 ounce jar of delicious Hatch Chile Salsa.
