Searching for sweets near the beach? Lollishop will take care of your candy fix. Owner Kim Keirstead grew up in Newport Beach and just opened the fantastic candy store across from City Hall in Newport Beach. But her mission is more than supplying lollipops, novelty candies and holiday themed sweets to customers. She hopes to inspire other merchants to open in this area.
“I have lived in Newport Beach my entire life and I have very fond memories of riding my bike to this area and spending hours looking through all of the cute and interesting shops,” Keirstead says. “I am doing my best to restore a sense of community to a part of town that has a rich past and a promise of a great future.”
Lollishop stocks a huge selection of candy, including Zots, M&M’s, Taffy Town taffy, award-winning “U Be the Fudge,” caramel apples, B. Toffee, Blue Bunny novelty ice cream and much more.
With Halloween around the corner, it’s also the perfect resource for special trick-or-treat sweets.
Mention Greer’s OC in the shop and receive a free little bag of candy corn or pumpkin creams with your purchase.
Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday.
436 32nd St. in Newport Beach. 949.791.8165.
Evening of Epicure
Tomorrow evening, Stonehill Tavern is hosting an Evening of Epicure for both locals and events. Our friend Chef Michael Mina will be among the acclaimed food and wine experts on hand to answer your kitchen questions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Besides Chef Mina, the evening will also include the chance for casual conversation with Rajat Parr (co-author of Secrets of the Sommelier: How to Think and Drink like the World's Top Wine Professionals and wine director of Mina Group) and Agustin Francisco Huneeus (vintner and esteemed entrepreneur). Learn how the best choose their wines from a long, family tradition.
Besides the chance for one-on-one learning from the very best, you have the chance to taste wines from the Huneeus' family wines, as well as food pairings from Chef Mina's Stonehill Tavern menu and live cooking stations managed by the restaurant's executie chef Craig Polignano.
Mina and Parr will also be available to sign copies of their books.
Tickets are $95 per person and include all wine and food selections. To purchase tickets, call Jacqueline Doti at 949.234.3405 or send an email to jacqueline.doti@stregis.com.
Stonehill Tavern is located in The St. Regis Monarch Beach at One Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point.
