NB Film Fest: International Films and Fun!

Newport Beach Film Fest

The Newport Beach Film Festival is underway with four full days left of major studio and indie films, post-screening question-and-answer sessions with filmmakers, and after parties--and it's all right here in Orange County. We don't want you to miss out on a second of this, so we'll give you some highlights of what could be in store for you.

Each night, you can see an international spotlight film and also attend an optional after-party with hors d'oeuvres and drinks from local restaurants. Most screenings and parties cost $35, screening $15, and party only $25.

Tonight, there are three Asian spotlight films screening at Big Newport. From China, the romantic comedy “Go Lala Go!” at 7:15 p.m.; a feel-good South Korean film; “Harmony” at 7 p.m.; and from Japan, the anime feature and top 12 Film Fest favorite as reported in OC Weekly, “Redline” at 7:30 p.m. Stop by the after block party at Fashion Island to enjoy entertainment and hors d’oeuvres.

Tuesday, there are three international spotlight films screening at Big Newport. A French film “On Tour” about a burlesque group screens at 7:15 p.m.; and “The Tree” screens at 7:30 p.m. Another top 12 pick from OC Weekly, Sweden’s “Simple Simon” screens (pictured above) at 7:45 p.m. Stop by the after block party at Fashion Island to enjoy entertainment and hors d’oeuvres.

Wednesday, the Italian spotlight film, “Basilicata Coast to Coast,” screens at Big Newport at 7:15 p.m., an after-party at Canaletto Restorante Veneto at Fashion Island with entertainment and hors d’oeuvres. The Irish spotlight film, “The Runway,” screens at 7:30 p.m. with an after party at Muldoon’s Irish Pub and Celtic Bar. (Cost is just $20 for film and party; $15 film only.) At Lido Theatre, “Something Borrowed” screens at 8:15 p.m.

Thursday, the closing night film, “A Beginner’s Guide to Endings,” screens at Lido Theatre at 7 p.m. The dark comedy starring Scott Caan, Jason Jones, JK Simmons and Harvey Keitel is a farcical look at three brothers who are dealing their gambler father's complicated legacy. The film will be followed an after party at Lido Marina Village. Screening and party costs $75, party only costs $50.
