Sunset Strip Music Festival Rocks
07.29.11
By Sheryll Alexander
West Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip Music Festival has announced Motley Crüe as the headline act with tickets now available online. The three-day outdoor street festival starts Aug. 18 with street stages and historic rock music halls featuring performances by artists such as Bush and Public Enemy as well as more than 50 other bands.
New this year is after parties at the Key Club and Roxy Theatre with DJs such as Felix Cartal, Harvard Bass, Deathface, Bones, Semi Precious Weapons and Empire.
Celebrating West Hollywood’s rich musical rock history and influence, the Sunset Strip Music Festival closes down a long stretch of Sunset Boulevard for three days. This star-struck boulevard transforms into a world-class outdoor concert destination with outdoor stages, beer gardens, a VIP lounge, food trucks and live performances within the venues during the day until 1-2 a.m.
Not only do rockers jam under West Hollywood's warm sun and blue skies, but The Sunset Strip’s cool and dark indoor venues – Viper Room, Whisky A Go-Go, The Roxy Theatre, Key Club and House of Blues Sunset Strip – also host iconic acts such as Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors with vocalist David Brock and Uriah Heap.
Tickets are on sale via TicketWeb (www.ticketweb.com/SSMF). August 20 street festival tickets are available for $55 in advance and $70 at the door. A limited number of VIP street festival tickets, which include access to a VIP rooftop lounge and priority access to the venues, costs $120 in advance.
A very limited number of three-day VIP passes (which include access to all the venues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, plus the Aug. 18 tribute to Motley Crue and VIP access to the Aug. 20 street festival) are available for $250.
Fans can also purchase tickets directly from their iPhones this year with the Sunset Strip Music Festival app available for free download (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sunset-strip-music-festival/id432757230?mt=8&ls=1).
