WAIT’LL YOU SEE THE GARDENS ON THIS YEAR’S NEWPORT BEACH VIRTUAL GARDEN TOUR
04.27.21
The 25th Annual Newport Beach Garden Tour, hosted by the Sherman Library & Gardens’ Volunteer Association, will be presented virtually on Saturday, May 8th ~ the day before Mother’s Day. This year’s tour will take you on a journey throughout Southern California.
Starting in Beverly Hills with a modern take on a Japanese Garden, stunning views of LA, an orchid house and a small orchard. Then travel to Pasadena with two turn-of-the-century California Craftsman style homes and gardens. In fact, one of them is registered in the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Gardens.
Heading back to the coast, stop in Newport Beach at a stunning urban park-like garden focused on family, friends and entertaining. Continuing down Pacific Coast Highway, continue to an oceanfront landmark in Laguna built nearly a century ago to resemble a large boat known as “The Ark.” Last but not least, land in a jungle paradise in San Clemente. This lush tropical setting boasts fire pits, a stunning pool and a koi pond.
“Because we knew we were going “virtual” this year, we looked beyond Newport Beach and Orange County to bring gardens that normally wouldn’t be part of a traditional garden tour to our viewers. Several of the homeowners on this year’s tour, while proud of their gardens, wish to remain anonymous. To that end, the ‘virtual’ video format works perfectly,” said Scott LaFleur, Executive Director of Sherman Library & Gardens. Stories from the homeowners will be woven throughout, where they’ll share interesting tidbits and disclose the inspiration for their gardens.
Ticket purchasers will receive an email with the Tour link and password, and be able to watch and re-watch the garden videos at their leisure from the comfort of their home.
A unique part of the Newport Beach Garden Tour is the “Artist in the Garden.” Each year, accomplished local artists are invited to paint points of interest in the gardens on the Tour. Their finished paintings will be available to view, and purchase, at an in-person Summer Garden Party scheduled to take place at Sherman Gardens on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Tickets to the Newport Beach Virtual Garden Tour make the perfect Mother’s Day gift and start at only $20! For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit thesherman.org or call 949.673.2261.
