Ask A Stylist: Spring Style In January
01.23.14
By Leslie Christen
Question: Traditionally I like to dress for the season, but with the weather being so hot lately I just can't bring myself to wear coats, sweaters and pants. What are some items trending for Spring that I can wear right now?
Answer: Warm styles are arriving daily to our favorite local boutiques and even though we still haven't been able to wear our Winter clothes, now seems like a great time to talk about Spring. Forget about the florals, pastels and Brenton stripe standards; here are some fundamental pieces you'll need to add to your wardrobe.
Black & White: Seen everywhere last fall, this carry over trend is more of an un-trend because it's a classic combination that will always have a place in fashion.
Athleticism: An athletic aesthetic clearly took over this Spring's runways; most notably: baseball caps, tennis-inspired dresses and varsity jackets. Wear them separate or all together sporty.
Metallics: Glamorous gold and shiny silvers add a touch of luxe to this season's metallics and are a great neutral; so try adding some subtle touches to an outfit like gold sandals or a silver handbag, you can't go wrong!
Simple Sheaths: Trust me when I say that slinky, about to slip off the shoulder slip dresses, that were a closet staple back in the nineties are going to be back with a vengeance. Dress them down by adding a denim jacket and some sneakers or glam them up with killer heels and a slick back hairstyle.
Crop Tops: For the bravest of gals, but being seen everywhere from the runways to street style. Do you dare bare? With the right proportions and just a slight showing of the skin this style can be tres chic!
