NEW OLD TOWNE HOT SPOT

Gabbi's Mexican Kitchen is the newest hot spot in Old Towne Orange, and its already stellar reputation is well deserved. The restaurant offers both incredible ambience and fresh authentic cuisine.

Gabbi’s is the sole creation of owners Chef Gabbi Patrick and Ed Patrick. The married couple carefully created a "we're in a fantastic restaurant in Mexico City vibe" with complex homemade dishes from Gabbi's impressive culinary background that includes culinary school at UCLA and the Greystone Culinary Academy in Napa.

The Patricks have impressively brought back a 1904 building to its original grandeur and then enhanced it with warm glowing lighting, mosaics, furniture and décor brought back from trips to Mexico.

Gabbi cooks family favorite recipes from the Yucatan and Oaxaca and is big on flavors and presentation. Depending on her mood she’s partial to these dishes: the grilled shrimp salad in a citrus lime mojo, jicama, pine nuts, mango, cilantro, mixed greens and romaine in a tamarindo dressing; Panuchos de Yucatan, a trio of tortillas filled with pork baked in achoite, black beans, avocado and onion habanero escabeche relish; and tacos de rajas melted Oaxaca cheese, roasted pasilla strips and onions.

Gabbi's hits all the right marks for excellent Mexican dining: homemade complex sauces for each dish like chile-chocolate and guajillo-chile and fresh ingredients including hand-made tortillas, cactus, squash blossoms, banana leaves, tender slow cooked pork and grilled shrimp.

And for tequila connoisseurs, Gabbi's offers coveted tequilas and smooth aromatic liquors in handcrafted bottles. Gabbis's secret margarita recipes are perfectly tart and sweet, served in hand-blown funky margarita glasses from Mexico.

Open 11 a.m. to midnight daily. Gabbi's is at 141 S. Glassell Ave. in Orange. 714.633.3038.
