Frogs Breath Cheese Store in Old Towne Orange got its name from, of all places, Tim Burton's film "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
"As soon as I saw Sally reaching for the jar of Frog's Breath I knew that it was a logical fit for my store," says owner Priscilla Madrid, a former attorney who celebrates her shop's first-year anniversary in November.
The self-taught cheese expert enjoys expanding the cheese horizons of customers by offering one of the largest cut-to-order cheese selection in Orange County.
At Frogs Breath you can find hard-to-find Spanish, English, Italian, Swiss, French and award-winning American artisan cheeses. Be sure to ask for samples.
Fresh breads arrive Fridays through Sunday. And you can pick up a bottle of wine, too. Frogs Breath specializes in small production and cult wines. Each bottle is hand-picked by Madrid. Prices range from $7 per bottle up to $150.
Wine tastings are Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tastings continue Fridays from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m., Sundays 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and then 2:30 to 4 p.m. Reservations are required.
