BOOK WORMS UNITE!
There's nothing quite like buying books at an indie bookstore -- knowing that you're supporting the community, receiving individual attention and feeding your mind.
At Laguna Beach Books at the Old Pottery site, you'll receive all of these great perks and more. It carries an excellent selection of books for adults and children, plus exciting author events and readings.
On Thursday, you can meet Jane Porter, a mama-lit writer and award-winning novelist. One of her books, "Flirting With Forty," was made into a Lifetime movie starring Heather Locklear and premieres in December.
Enjoy a wine and cheese reception at 6 p.m. and Porter will read from her latest book, "Mrs. Perfect" at 7 p.m. The book was dubbed by USA Today as "the perfect beach read."
Next month, Laguna Beach Books will host Orange County's first open mic writer's night, an event that will take place the second Sunday of each month.
Writers of both fiction and non-fiction pieces are encouraged to attend, and everyone will have an opportunity to share their work. Writers are given three minutes to read their story, which allows for a fast-paced evening with tightly edited pieces.
It's a great opportunity for writers to get exposure and receive feedback on their work. Open to all writers and listeners, this event is free to all.
