ICING ON THE CAKE



The new Café Blanc in Costa Mesa specializes in delicious pastries, custom cakes and fresh gelato all handmade by accomplished chef and owner, Tommy Harase.

It’s Costa Mesa’s gain and Beverly Hills loss since Harase relocated to East 17th Street after owning a successful Japanese-French restaurant, Nouveau Café Blanc on Little Santa Monica Boulevard.

Harase is an innovative chef with an impressive culinary background. He’s cooked in kitchens at Le Grand Vefour in Paris, as well as for Wolfgang Puck at Spago in Beverly Hills, and Chinois on Main in Santa Monica.

At the patisserie, Harase bakes beautiful pastries, like miroir, chocolate and vanilla mousse, sponge cake, fresh raspberries, adorned with gold leaf; éclairs; cream puff kabocha cheesecake; and pear charlotte.

Exceptional gelato flavors include blueberry, rum raisin, green apple, coconut, chocolate chip, pear, and tiramisu. And don't forget to try the exotic Asian-inspired gelato flavors: refreshing yuzu (Japanese citrus fruit), sesame, and green tea.

For a special gift, pick up a Café Blanc chocolate box, ten-pieces of hand-painted chocolates with swirls, green stripes, and hearts. Each one is almost too pretty to eat. Or go all out with a gorgeous jewelry box of chocolates.
