A NEW RAW EXPERIENCE
Orange County's choices in sushi restaurants are exploding: There's Fury Rock & Roll Sushi Lounge in Newport Beach, Hamamori Restaurant-Lounge at South Coast Plaza, and Slow Fish, Gyu-Kaku, and Izakaya Zero in Huntington Beach.
And just opened in Tustin is RA Sushi, an upbeat and sexy sushi bar and restaurant at the District at Tustin Legacy. The popular Scottsdale-based restaurant blends fresh sushi, hip music and modern décor into one tasty and fun experience.
And here’s a tip: You can get great food and drink specials from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
RA Sushi offers fresh sushi sliced to order, signature rolls and sashimi dishes along with Japanese fusion hot dishes. Executive Chef Tai Obata and Head Sushi Chef Shigeru Ishizaki both hail from Japan and have worked under world-renowned sushi chefs in Japan, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Signature rolls include Tootsy Maki, a duo of crab and shrimp wrapped in seaweed and encased in rice, drizzled with sweet eel sauce and topped with tempura bits; the Pacific Roll, featuring spicy albacore, cilantro, jalapeno and cucumber rolled and topped with fresh avocado and mango salsa finished with red beet tempura flakes and sautéed pine and cashew nuts; and the Viva Las Vegas Roll, kani kama cream cheese rolled in rice and seaweed, lightly tempura battered and topped with spicy tuna, crab mix and sliced lotus root, finished with eel sauce and spinach tempura flakes.
RA's dinner menu includes fusion dishes such as the apple teriyaki salmon, a marinated grilled filet topped with sautéed Fuji apple glaze, served with wasabi mashed potatoes; Yuzu halibut, seared halibut braised in a creamy yuzu broth, served with spicy crispy rice, fresh shiitake mushrooms and spinach; and spicy garlic shrimp with tofu noodles, tiger shrimp sautéed in garlic, shiitake mushrooms and scallions with tofu noodles.
