LET'S GET PHYSICAL
If your New Year's resolution is to get in shape, here's a great way to do it (and also, by the way, help cure cancer): Join Team DUKE, an offshoot of the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.
It works like this: Sign up with Team DUKE (based in Newport Beach), pick a sport and an event. Team DUKE's training program, which includes coaching from world renowned Chris Carmichael, and your supportive teammates will help you reach your goals. You can do anything: walk, swim, bike, run (Team Duke was well represented at Sunday's OC Marathon), compete in triathlons, play tennis or basketball, golf, or even kite surf.
With your personal Team DUKE web page and fund-raising kit, you can track donations from your family, friends, co-workers and employers. The minimum fundraising goal: $500.
As a Team Duke member you'll receive a super cool Team DUKE jersey or T-shirt, hat and sunscreen, temporary tattoos, and 10% discount on all JWCF merchandise online at the Team DUKE store.
Best of all, you'll share in the fight against cancer, and benefit from a training program suited to your abilities to deliver maximum fitness in the least amount of hours.
An annual membership costs just $50 and benefits the JWCF.
IT'S TIME TO PARTY
Today is the final day to RSVP to Greer's OC first birthday celebration on Thursday at hush restaurant in Laguna Beach. The free event is nearly at capacity, so please e-mail mona.shah@wundermarx.com quickly if you want to attend. The party from 5 to 8 p.m. will feature great food, cocktails and a silent auction to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
