We just discovered TAPS Fish House & Brewery in downtown Brea, but can't quite pin down why it's become one of our favorite dining spots.
It could be because of the delicious award-wining menu with wonderful appetizers, fresh seafood, prime steaks, and delectable desserts.
Maybe it's because of the incredible selection of hand-crafted European and American ales and lagers.
Or it could be because of the renowned Sunday Brunch extravaganza featuring a live Dixieland band and a feast of fresh seafoods, carving stations, freshly baked bread and pastries, classic brunch dishes and more.
Whatever the reason, you can get a taste of the TAPS experience at a special holiday wine dinner on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. It will feature a five-course menu created by Executive Chef Michael Doctulero especially for Francis Ford Coppola's finest wines.
The menu includes crab canapé with lemon oil accent paired with 2006 Diamond Series Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley. The starter: glazed scallops with spicy cucumber frag paired with 2005 Director's Cut Chardonnay, Russian River Valley.
The first course: a slow braised prime boneless short rib, wild mushrooms and baked winter squash, paired with 2005 Director's Cut Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley.
The entrée: seared duck breast on black rice with rapini, dried cherries and hibiscus gastrique, paired with 2006 Director's Cut Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast and 2005 Director's Cut Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley.
And dessert: an almond financière cake and vanilla poached pears paired with 2006 Sofia’s Sparkling Blanc de Blancs, Monterey County.
$75 per person. 101 E. Imperial Hwy. in Downtown Brea, 714.257.0101.
