View art from another perspective on Saturday in Santa Ana at the Sidewalk Angel Project & Performance Art Show. Joseph and Chela BaƱuelos, owners of Amorviejo Art Gallery, look for art in unlikely places: vintage advertisements, religious icons and even homeless cardboard signs.
Their new exhibit will feature framed handmade signs purchased from homeless people in Santa Ana. A street art performance starts Saturday at 7 p.m., when artists will raise signs to show support for the project. An artist reception follows from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Local artists will donate a large piece of art to be auctioned at the show. Proceeds will go to the Mercy House homeless shelter.
"We view each sign as a work of personal creative expression," Joseph says. "What started as an art project has become a personal endeavor to acknowledge that meaningful art can be found anywhere and everywhere."
The Sidewalk Angel Project show exhibits through Friday, Aug. 24. Admission is free. At the old City Hall building at 217 N. Main St., Ste. 122, in Santa Ana. 714.569-0242.
On Monday, Greer's OC will unveil its 2.0 version. More bargains, more photos, more great finds.
