Laura Matthews, a Newport Beach-based handbag designer, says the right bag can make you feel sexy and strong. She designs high-quality fashion bags made of buttery soft lambskin, croco-embossed calfskin, patent leather, custom hardware and suede lining. Laura Matthers bags are available online, at local boutiques, and at more than 30 boutiques across the country.
The design savvy Matthews started designing handbags two years ago.
"I started because I wanted to create something interesting that I wanted to carry," Matthews says. "And I couldn't find anything in the stores."
Matthews inherited the design gene from her fashion designer mother, and she knew always had it in her. Originally, she just added design elements to basic bags, and they sold out immediately at boutiques and trade shows. So she knew she was on to something. Now her line is manufactured in New York and LA, and is featured in an upcoming issue of In Style magazine.
