SENSIBLE SHOES (REALLY)!
Al Amirah is an OC-based line of shoes and handbags from designer Laura Vanderhook. Each shoe is designed with glamour and comfort in mind, but never priced high-end. Shoes range from $80 to $120.
Vanderhook found a niche market for an affordable shoe that would make women feel good.
"Our mission is to satisfy the needs of all women; making a glamorous shoe that is fun to wear, comfortable to be in, and beautiful to show off," Vanderhook says.
She started designing shoes from her home a year ago and now her collections can be found in boutiques across the country and locally at Rachael's Boutique in Irvine and Ladera Ranch. Other stores that carry her line include Tanya B in Yorba Linda, Carmen Parks in Huntington Beach and Urban Junkie in Anaheim Hills.
Collections are inspired by Vanderhookâs travels throughout Europe and Asia. Contemporary to retro styles are colorful with satin, suede, and crystal detailing. Ballet flats, thongs, wedges, slingback pumps, boots and more make up the collection.
"Al Amirah in Arabic means 'the princess,' " Vanderhook says. "All the shoes are feminine and girly making every woman feel like a princess."
