The curtain recently went up on Leatherby's Cafe Rouge at the new Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa. It joins Pinot Provence, also in the South Coast Metro area, as one of chef Joachim Splichal's creations in the Patina Restaurant Group.
Leatherby's Café Rouge serves contemporary American cuisine with a French twist, and it's open to everyone, not just theatergoers.
Cafe Rouge offers five- or six-course tasting menus and an a la carte menu, as well as a late-night, post-theater supper and dessert menu.
Dishes on the menu include bacon-wrapped venison loin on spaetzle with red cabbage and huckleberry jus; Sonoma duck breast on candied yams with roasted potatoes, crispy Brussel sprouts and pomegranate jus, and macadamia nut-crusted ono with jasmine rice, lemon grass-coconut sauce and cilantro oil.
The restaurant is named after the late Ralph Leatherby, an Orange County entrepreneur and philanthropist. Leatherby was a fan of radio broadcasts of the Glenn Miller Orchestra originating from Cafe Rouge in New York City.
It's open for lunch and dinner. 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Leatherby's Cafe Rouge is at Segerstrom Hall, 615 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. 714.429.7640.
