A TREASURE TROVE
Trove lives up to its name. It's a Laguna Beach shop filled with wonderful treasures mostly from Sweden, Belgium and the south of France. Owners Heather and Bobby Lee buy what appeals to them, whether it’s a pair of hand-forged stainless steel lobsters, Baroque curtain brackets or French industrial lockers.
"There’s rhyme, but no reason," says Heather, of the eclectic theme at Trove. She has an eye for design and even has the ability to rework vintage jewelry. Heather grew up in an artistic family. Her stepfather, Dennis Ekstrom, is an abstract artist, and her mother, Cheryl Ekstrom, sculpts in stainless steel and figurative bronzes (Trove carries her work. www.cherylekstrom.com).
Treasure-hunters from all over rely on Trove for out of the ordinary pieces. They come in to find everything from 18th century antiques to mid-century modern designs.
A sampling of finds includes a 19th century French cast-iron day bed, a Chinese rose quartz lamp, a hanging altar light, and a pair of Southeast Asian carved gray-stone temple guardians striking a menacing pose.
Other shoppers come into pick up vintage jewelry, home design coffee-table books written in Dutch, luxurious hand-loomed mohair blankets from Finland, and handwoven blankets from England.
For the holidays, Trove carries antiqued mercury glass ornaments, as well as beautiful pomegranate ornaments dipped in silver and 24K gold.
