DIG THIS GARDEN
An enchanting children’s garden opens today at 9 a.m. at the Central Library in Newport Beach. The Sun and Sea Discovery Garden is a gift from the Friends of Library, which chose the talented landscape firm, Front Porch Creations of Corona del Mar, to transform an unused patio into an outdoor storytime garden.
The space is designed for kids ages three to seven and features an interactive area for children to read books with their parents or friends, listen to stories read by the librarians, discover facts about the ocean or walk through a maze.
It’s surrounded by a colorful tile wave, and decorative sea creatures line the pathway near the fountain. There are built-in seat walls for comfortable reading. The garden remains open during daylight hours from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Adults must be accompanied by a child to visit the garden, and the only access is through the Children’s Room. The library is at 1000 Avocado Ave. in Newport Beach. 949.717.3800.
