A VEGGIE TALE WELL DONE
Vegan dining takes on a new persona at the Veggie Grill, a casual café that just debuted in Irvine near UCI. The restaurant serves meat- and dairy-free classic American burgers and sandwiches prepared with a vegan twist. Think Philly steaks, a classic Reuben and burgers made with tempeh, wheat meat, cashew cheese and vegan mayo.
The menu offers a number of starters: sweet potato fries, Chill Out Wings (grilled veggie protein blend), entree salads such as the Baja Fiesta and a chopped salad. Their tasty sandwiches and burgers include the barbecue Texas Hold ’Em, a wheat meat with caramelized onions, topped with house slaw; the Veggie-Mite, a veggie patty with sweet pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard and vegan mayo; and Papa’s Portobello and Sausage, a Portobello mushroom, Italian sausage-spiced wheat meat, chopped tomato, basil and garlic pomodoro, caramelized onions and pesto.
For dessert, try the Coup de Carrot cake with soy cream cheese frosting, or a decadent French chocolate cake. An organic beer and wine list is also available. The very reasonable prices range from $3.50 for starters to $8.50 for the highest priced entree.
