Experiencing a culinary delicacy doesn’t get much better than at Crab Tuesdays at AnQi at South Coast Plaza. It's a rare weekly foodie event hosted by celebrity Chef Helene An, the matriarch and executive chef of all An Family restaurants.
She travels from Beverly Hills to cook her famous garlic roasted crab that she perfected at Crustacean in Beverly Hills and San Francisco decades ago, served with her legendary garlic noodles. (Even Anqi’s Chef Ryan Carson doesn’t know her garlic roasted crab and garlic noodle recipe.)
Chef An prepares the meal in her secret kitchen that only family members and chefs who have worked with the family for more than a decade can enter. The crab Tuesdays experience is limited, so it’s best to reserve your Dungeness crab order, a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
The roasted crab dish is available in the shell ($48) or shelled ($53) that’s easier to eat. We’ve tried both tasty versions, and it’s hard to decide which is better. However in the shell is preferred by the An family. Along with the crab, you can order appetizers and others courses, such as the char-grilled jumbo prawns with saffron fries, fra mani chorizo, manilla clams, piquillo pepper fumer, and quinzoi liaison a la carte.
AnQi by Crustacean is adjacent to Bloomingdale’s at South Coast Plaza, 3333 Bristol Street in Costa Mesa. 714.557.5679.
The OC Look!
In celebration of Orange County’s stylish set (and for a much needed cause, funding research for diabetes) Orange Coast magazine will present the 2011 OC Look event Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at a residence at Ritz Cove in Dana Point. The party will unveil this year’s honorees from surf industry vets to philanthropists and artists.
OC Look is also a stylish way to raise funds for the Dream Guild in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. OC Look is open to the public and everyone will be treated to an evening full of style and fashion complete with handwriting analysis by Mont Blanc, beauty bars offered by M•A•C Cosmetics and Kenneth Brown Salon, signature cocktails by Agave Underground Tequila, and decadent and delicious fare by 24 Carrots Catering.
Also at the event, check out Chloe’s most beautiful women’s styles, Saks Fifth Avenue’s men's fashions, and South County Lexus’s hottest cars. Tickets to attend the 2011 OC Look Party cost $75 each and can be purchased online or by calling the JDRF office at 949.553.0363.
