It’s been almost a year since the Beach Barrel, the self-dubbed rustic beach grub eatery, debuted on the peninsula, across from the old City Hall in Newport Beach. Co-owners Jared Jones (former Midnight Muncheez delivery service owner) and Mac Carlson (Green Room surf shop and former Social Costa Mesa owner), built the restaurant from scratch with charming beach décor and table tops made of thousands of pennies.
Jared and Mac’s vision was to create a rustic quick serve style restaurant where they can get creative with food while using all fresh ingredients from local farmers markets and continuing to deliver to the community.
The food is also made from scratch including gourmet sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, flatbreads, sliders, all beef hot dogs, salads and everyone’s favorite dessert sensation: Hawaiian sticky buns layered with toasted marshmallows, smothered in house made pecan caramel and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Fan favorites from the menu include BBQ Chicken flatbread with housemade Sriracha bbq sauce, shredded chicken, smoked applewood bacon, mozzarella cheese, red onion, and cilantro garnish; the Playa Cubano sandwich with citrus braised pork, smoked ham, Swiss cheese house made pickles, Dijonnaise, on a French roll; and the Tri-Tip sandwich on a brioche bun, topped with smoked applewood bacon, provolone cheese, caramelized red onions, grilled pineapple and Sriracha teriyaki sauce.
Beach Barrel offers catering daily.
Open limited to three days a week in the winter months (until April when they go full scale again); open for take-out and delivery until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Open noon to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday; noon to 10 p.m. Sundays.
3305 Newport Blvd in Newport Beach. 949.531.6222.
