Culture, Music and Art at Long Beach POW! WOW!

POW! WOW! Long Beach returns July 11-17 with a week-long celebration of culture, music and art, changing the face of the city with large-scale mural installations.  Inspired by Honolulu’s POW! WOW! Hawaii and following on last year’s successful inaugural event in Long Beach, the festival centers around internationally renowned artists who will complete a series of urban murals throughout the city.

Installation locations will include major attractions and landmarks such as the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Long Beach Convention Center, Edison Apartments, and Westin Hotel in Long Beach. Participating artists include Sean “Hula” Yoro, Felipe Pantone, Cinta Vidal Agulló, Telmo Pieper and Miel Krutzmann, Andrew Hem and Brendan Monroe.

Murals and events will take place from Monday, July 11 at 10 a.m. through Sunday, July 17 at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, July 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. Imprint Presents a Talk with Martha Cooper and Ernest Zacharevic hosted by Eugene Kan of Maekan. Generations apart and coming from different sides of the world, Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic and NYC-based photographer Martha Cooper are continuing their collaboration at POW! WOW! On Tuesday, July 12 from 8 to 10 p.m. POW! WOW! x 1xRUN Fine Art Print Exhibition features editions by The POW! WOW! family of artists from around the globe! At the Edison Theatre at 213 E Broadway in Long Beach.

On Wednesday, July 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. Imprint presents a Jeff Staple 1-2-1 with Sean “Hula” Yoro and music performances by the POW! WOW! School of Music. Sean Yoro, known as Hula, is a Hawaii-born, New York-based artist who creates portraits using oil paint on abandoned or lifeless concrete walls, creating a mysterious surreal combination. On Thursday, July 14 from 7 to 11 p.m. Night Dive at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Co-presented by POW! WOW! Night Dive is an adults-only event with local bands rockin’ out right next to the fish, DJs spinning in the Aquarium’s galleries, inspiring works of art, cocktails and drinks, and tasty bites from food trucks. Come take in the Aquarium at night, when the lights go down and the bubble curtain goes up in Honda Blue Cavern! At the Aquarium of the Pacific at 100 Aquarium Way in Long Beach.

On Friday, July 15 from 7 to 10 p.m. Vitality & Verve: In The Third Dimension. Presented by the Long Beach Museum of Art, Thinkspace Gallery and POW! WOW! with music performances by the POW! WOW! School of Music. This event will celebrate the opening of Vitality and Verve: In the Third Dimension, exhibiting July 16 to October 16. The exhibition will feature immersive, multi-media installations by a select group of nationally and internationally renowned urban contemporary artists, ceramic artists and sculptors.
