NATURAL TRAVEL PARFUMS!
09.25.11
Review by Sheryll Alexander
If you really hate the artificial smell of synthetic perfumes (which you find at department stores), especially when traveling, then consider JoAnne Bassett’s natural travel parfums. We love to bring along our expensive, but worth it indulgence from home for long days on planes, in cars and when getting ready for fancy dinners.
Plus, JoAnne’s glossy black metal travel container with diamond-like studs is rugged, sprays nicely and looks lovely sitting in your evening clutch. We’ve been taking these all-natural exotic parfums on lots of getaways recently and a little spray or two really makes you smell fresh, clean and pretty.
So far, our favorite scents are Madame Pompadour, Marie Antoinette and Amazing (which truly does smell amazingly delicious after it mellows for a bit). And if you want to be totally blown away, try JoAnne's mysteriously delicious Dark Mistress scent (meow!).
JoAnne Bassett, who lives in north San Diego’s Cardiff-by-the-Sea, describes herself as a spiritual alchemist as well as a fragrance therapist, botanical expert and artisanal perfume teacher. And, all of her perfumes and body care products are 100 percent organic and vegan.
Using traditional French methods for creating the finest parfums, JoAnne only includes the world’s most rare (and in some cases extinct) ingredients such as Bulgarian white rose oil, vintage Mysore sandalwood oil, vintage jasmine sambac, osmanthus, mimosa and tuberose.
JoAnne also teaches classes where you can learn about scent nuances, color energy and aromatherapy properties for body, mind and spirit. Classes start at $50 and include a custom-made bottle of perfume. For a group, she travels to Orange County for private classes.
Esoterica Launches in Gorgeous Blue Bottle for Holiday Gifts
Each season, JoAnne Bassett launches new fragrances in exquisite hand-blown bottles. For her new Esoterica parfum, she bottled this clean-smelling scent in a gorgeous assymetrical bottle in blue ombre shades. Esoterica features Bulgarian damask rose otto and very expensive and rare Bulgarian alba (white) rose otto as well as sensual jasmine sambac, exotic neroli (orange blossoms), vanilla absolute, bergamot, patchouli, sandalwood, and many other “secret” citrus and floral notes in an organic jojoba oil base. The half-ounce bottle hold 15 mls of all-natural perfume made in the traditional French style and costs $350. A 1 ml sample can be purchased for $35.
