Sushi Ii Pairs Up with Brooklyn Kura for a Sake-Focused Omakase Night
06.19.26
Sushi Ii, a Michelin Guide-recognized Japanese restaurant in Newport Beach, is teaming up with Brooklyn Kura, New York's pioneering sake brewery, for a special evening on Tuesday, June 23, that puts sake front and center. Guests who book the restaurant's Bizen Omakase that night will receive a complimentary five-course sake pairing built to match the seasonal menu.
The Bizen Omakase runs $325 per person and takes diners through a full Japanese culinary journey: a starter, an appetizer plate, seasonal broth, sashimi, a grilled dish, a fried dish, five pieces of nigiri, soup and dessert. Each course gets its own Brooklyn Kura sake, chosen to bring out the best in both the food and the pour.
The night opens with Occidental, a bright, dry-hopped sake with citrus and tropical notes, served with the starter. Next up is the seasonal appetizer platter, paired with Fourteen, an aromatic sake named for the yeast strain used in fermentation. The sashimi course gets Catskills, a Junmai Daiginjo known for its silky texture and clean finish. Then comes Blue Door, a richer, more savory pour with real umami depth, served alongside the grilled course. The tasting wraps with Grand Prairie, paired with the fried dish, its crisp acidity cutting right through the richness.
It's a rare chance to see how modern, American-made sake plays off traditional Japanese cooking, all while spotlighting the seasonality and craft that define Sushi Ii's omakase.
Reservations are limited and can be made online.
Sushi Ii is located at 100 West Coast Hwy Ste 202, Newport Beach. Call (949) 287-6268 for more information.

Say “I Do” on a Working Avocado Farm in Temecula
06.17.26
If you've been searching for a wedding venue that feels nothing like a wedding venue, Flora Avocado Farm might be exactly what you've been looking for.
Tucked into the rolling hills of Temecula's De Luz community, this 10-acre working avocado farm and private farmhouse-style home are the kind of place where the day truly belongs to you. No rushed timelines, no strict cutoffs, no one ushering you out the door. Couples have unlimited hours on their event day, plus access the day before and after for deliveries and pickup at no extra cost.
The setting is stunning in the most unpretentious way. The event area overlooks the working avocado grove and hundreds of lemon and orange trees, a treehouse and even a chicken coop with a resident Rooster, all of which make for incredible photos and those candid in-between moments that end up being your favorites.
Amenities are generous throughout. There are two indoor guest bathrooms, a full kitchen, a baseball-themed groom's loft, and a primary bedroom and bathroom set aside for the bride and her bridal party. Two fire pit lounge areas with couches and chairs make natural spots for guests to settle in as the night gets going. An outdoor refrigerator handles your cake and beverages, and RV parking means your food truck or caterer has plenty of room to work.
Inside, the details are just right. Vintage side tables, silver plate trays and thoughtful touches throughout give couples a beautiful foundation to style the space as their own, whether that's a moody lounge corner, a gorgeous dessert display or a quiet moment between the two of you.
One of the things I love most about Flora Avocado Farm is that it's privately owned, which means you're working directly with the people who care most about how your day goes, from your very first inquiry all the way through the wedding. They also have a vetted vendor list of florists, photographers and caterers who know the property well and consistently do beautiful work.
And it's not just weddings. Flora Avocado Farm is also available for engagement and bridal shoots, corporate retreats, team-building events, and commercial filming and photography. The De Luz landscape is genuinely versatile and always gorgeous.
